Top PMM predictions, PLS journeys, and SEO

How many spiders does it take to create an app?

None. Spiders don't make apps; they only design web sites!

🔥 Welcome to PLG Recap of TheProductLed 🔥

I spend all week deep diving into the best PLG LinkedIn posts so you don't have to.

Here are some of my favorites!

Strategy or Tactic? Strategy

Growth lever = All levers

Summary

  • I am working on bringing more PMMs into the spotlight around PLG. They are core to the process!

  • Out of all of Madison's predictions, I'm most excited about the new emerging tech for PMMs. I am constantly in 4-5 SaaS tools a week in growth. I am curious to know how we can enable PMMs the same way data tools support growth folks.

  • I can also see PMMs not being affected by the economic environment. Especially when PMMs should be the first core key hire in PLG teams. Your product needs a strategic storyteller if any fuel will be poured into it.

2️⃣ Leah Tharin

Strategy or Tactic? Strategy

Growth lever = All levers

Summary

  • Compartmentalize each step in PLG to ensure you don't have to go backward.

  • Acquisition -> Retention -> Monetization first. Once these have been proven, you can scale and repeat the process of acquiring users, maintaining high retention rates, and optimizing the willingness to pay.

  • I would add on that this can be broken into any part of a Motion x Lever. Each lever should have its own journey to prove, scale, and defend!

3️⃣ Nevo Alva

Strategy or Tactic? Tactic

Growth lever = Monetization

Summary

  • One of the hottest conversation topics in PLG is about delivering value vs capturing value. A beautiful dichotomy that causes headaches across the community.

  • Don't charge or monetize your user before they have captured value. Either bring value earlier on in the journey or expand your trial length. But maybe there is a different way.

  • Usage. You can create demand for monetization via usage. While usage is an output metric for retention, it can be seen as an input metric for monetization.

4️⃣ Elena Verna

Strategy or Tactic? Strategy

Growth lever = Product-led Sales

Summary

  • Elena is growing her PLS momentum and diving deeper into theory (and data)

  • There are situations we need to know for PLS journeys involving PQLs (product-qualified leads) and PQAs (product-qualified accounts).

  • PQA with no PQLs = biggest growth opportunities. The challenge lies in the tactics here. How to enable communication between the user and buyer.

5️⃣ Ben Williams

Strategy or Tactic? Tactics

Growth lever = Acquisition

Summary

  • Product-led SEO vs Marketing-led SEO is a 🔥 conversation

  • I like Ben's point: "the role of content (and therefore) SEO needs to be built into the overall product growth model" - this is key. It's also a tactic in Product-led Marketing

  • My take: While the role of SEO is far away from being in the product org, it's time to let our SEO and web strategists sit on product launch and growth strategy conversations. SEO is one key to exponential growth.
